You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Bad coupling caps, sounds like. It's letting DC into the signal path. That's not healthy for your amp, either. Could be a bad transistor, maybe.

How about a shot of the component side of the board (that's the solder side)?

^If it was a bad coupling cap DC would be leaking into the cascading stages then probably past the output. If there is DC getting past the output then the TS would hear crackling.

My thoughts...
Dying battery, fuzzes are known for doing weird things with a dying battery. Some like it, hence "sag" mods.

Loose wire...I have repaired a ton of my own EHX pedals and other people's. 90% of the time the problem is a loose wire. EHX quality ain't too hot. Whenever I go inside one of dem pedals, one a wire always comes loose.

If it is neither of these things then start getting some voltages. Get voltages on Vcc, all transistors, diodes also check current draw (when on and off). I can compare with my BMP's or just spot the problem off hand.

Its very rare that a cap or transistor just fails.

Get more pics,,, not so tiny and make it the whole PCB.
