Yet another attempt to regulate the internet. ISP are now going to write "informative" messages to suspicious accounts. What exactly do they mean by that? I can imainge that large volumes of traffic is going to be thier main argument for that, however I can match and surpass traffic volumes easily by watching legal videos on youtube all day whilst gaming and steaming radios. How are they supposed to catch the real problem whilst victimising all thier customers?

It's spelt ESP, noob!

But seriously, this'll never work - there will always be a way around it. The Australian government spent millions of dollars on a free porn filter last year, and a 16 year old kid (called Tom) cracked through it in 15 minutes.

Another question, what about people who download and don't upload. That's not file sharing so does that mean you get off the hook?

Well you'll find it hard to download at a good speed without P2P.

I don't download music, much at all - rarely, for the past few months at least. Though when I was on a different PC and ISP I made a habit of it. I have a HDD of about 15-20gigs worth of downloaded music I'd say, not including many ripped CDs.

What, how, where? ISP? Location?

I thought a download speed of 300kb with BT was really quite good.

I'll probably stay with BT as I don't pay the bill and it's good enough for me.. the service has always been very good and they have upgraded the line twice for free, from 1mb to 2mb to 3mb (max they can offer where I am, ironically in Reading near London.. such is the infrastructure of the country!).

How much is Virgin Media 20mb though? Also how does it work, is it fibre optic, was installation easy and finally how reliable is it?

"How much is Virgin Media 20mb though?" Package for phone, tv and internet £40 a month
"Also how does it work, is it fibre optic" - Dunno probably
"Was installation easy and finally how reliable is it?" - Installation was simple, some bloke did it for us and reliablilty is fairly good, couple of niggles with the tv and internet last month

Those letters are nothing to worry about anyway, it just makes the music companies happy.
Be more worried about your ISP throttling your torrents, making them really slow. Mine does it so I have to encrypt data and change the port every once in a while.

How do you know when they do it?
I normally get speeds of 20kb/s, but up to 90kb/s (If lucky).
