Just been checking out my speeds, etc.

According to the router my speeds are:
Downstream: 6912 kbps
Upstream: 384 kbps

Which means, according to some sums, my download speed is 0.86 MB/s.
My connection is advertised as 8MB.

Unless I've done something wrong with sums, that's bloody slow!

youll normally find 8mb is usually after the words Up To.

Which means youll get as much as you can for your area up to that.

Id say 0.86mb/s is pretty good. stop complaining i only get 110 kb/s...

I am 100% certain you're connection is advertised at 8 megabits per second

6912 kbits/s = 6.75 megabits/s

which means you're only about 15% away from doing 8 megabits which isn't that bad

also
8 megabits/s = 1 megabyte/s

Yeah, I do the know the difference between megabits and megabytes.

MB = Megabytes. Mb = megabits.

I just looked [at ISP website] and its Mb. I misread as MB.
So, I guess its doing fine then, right?

Here's what I used
http://web.forret.com/tools/bandwidth.asp?speed=6912&unit=Kbps

EDIT: I got all sums wrong then.
Thanks for clearing that up everyone!

I get 26.9kBps download speed direct, usually less for torrents. It. Sucks.

12 hours for 1GB = no thankyou.

WAT
How about just send a ship at the speed up light directly to the sun, and the gravity will pull it towards the sun, thus speeding it over the speed of light.

I get 150kbps Download Speed. It's good, considering I've spent all previous years on dialup.

Our broadbands owned by one company over here, they've made dial up sooo slow, that when you get broadband half the speed of a ****ty dsl connection, it seems reeeaally fast. But it's not.

It's to do with your contention ratio - max users per connection.

8mb is max but typically that means 1mb or less. Google it

i'd say your guitar is out of tune, or you are accidentally muting strings that you aren't trying to, or your right hand isn't strumming at the same time that your left hand is fretting, or you could be reading the tab upside down...

I have a torrent downloading now. It's 1.25 GB, has been going for 3 days and 19 hours, and has a predicted time left of 3 hours 30 minutes. Meanwhile, my brother, who is on the same wireless router, is downloading 1 GB files in about 5 hours on his laptop.

What the hell are you bitching about TS?

I have a download speed 1/8th of yours.

I consider that good too, I currently get about 350kbps but I used to have awful ISP/connection problems so I feel it's karma.

ISP's have a way of making things look better then they are.

You're on a connection that varies, meaning at in the early hours it will go fast and at noon it will go slow.

I'm on a 6mbps connection and I get 5*** kbps downsload and 8** upload.

That 8mb is the ideal speed you'd get.

Ideal meaning if you lived next door to the server, and nobody else in the country was using the internet.

Don't be drawn in by the speed they state, it's very rare people get speeds above 1meg in practice anyway.

Even then, for gaming and such, your connection doesn't really matter much anymore. Your ping is more affected by your location to the server.

I did a speed test and I get 2958kbps or so, and I can't be on anything more than a 3mb line, pretty good I'd say.

UG is often slow though. Just seems to me these days alot of the webs slow.. youtube, myspace, etc..

Btw, I am completely aware oif varied speed based on ISP server usage of all users, and distance away from the exchange.

I was just saying that speed actually looked extremely slower then a normal user would get - but then I got corrected (lower case b can look like a B), and discovered my speed is perfectly fine.

I was only worried due to a thing called "DLM" which randomly monitors a line for 10 days, and can LOWER your speed if you keep turning off your router (which is seriously WTF - as we turn it off when not in use) by a couple of Mbs - sometimes even lower - and we turn ours off often, I got a bit worried.

However, since I have a good speed, I guess if it monitor us, it lowered us by a little.

I have an 8mb connection but I live in the countryside so the speed goes up to around 500kb/s max
