Hey UG

I've been playing through a gibson les paul studio for a while, and i'm looking to put a dirty fingers pickup on it, i was JUST wondering (i know next to nothing about pickups and their accessories)

I'd like to leave the pickup covers on the pickups, but does that take away from the sound at all? What are their purpose? I'd like to know this before i go blow money on a pickup

Thaanks

sorry for being daft

they get a little less sharp...
they gain a little warmth.
But not much.

If you take the copper tape off the dirty fingers and you put nickel covers on then you probably won't hear a difference. If you put chrome cover on then the pickup will have slightly less power and a slightly darker tone. Whatever cover you put on you should remove the copper tape 1st so that it doesn't effect your tone as much.
