For direct DVD to iPod, I prefer Handbrake to Videora. I have both but Handbrake is one process rather than two like Videora. Also, it retains chapter information.

Make sure you either buy or otherwise "creatively obtain" a copy of SlySoft's AnyDVD. All you do is run AnyDVD (it'll appear in your taskbar, it runs in the background) and you will instantly be able to use Handbrake or other programs to copy just about any DVD, no matter what degree of protection, no worries.

Handbrake works wonderfully for PC.

In fact, I'm ripping a DVD with it now. All you have to do is pick your applicable preset, hit convert, and forget it till it's done. The "problem" with any DVD ripping program is that people assume that they will just work, no matter what, protection, encryption, etc, whatever. The key is to use a program like AnyDVD that basically tells your computer to ignore copy protection. Even Nero won't rip copy protected DVDs unless you use something like AnyDVD to get it to ignore it. In short, really what program you use to actually do the ripping and converting of the DVD is up to you, as long as you're running a program like AnyDVD in the background.
