I'm installing an EMG Split coil into my p-bass and the stock knobs wont fit on the EMG pots. The pots are too large. Whats the best way to expand the hole on the knobs?

your talking about the holes in the mounts in the knobs right?

Just take a powerdrill and carefully make bigger holes.

Check your old pots. If they were solid shaft pots, then you'll need to get new knobs. Split shafts (like used on EMG pots) are slightly thicker than solid shafts, on account of the straight-knurled edges.

but yeah you could carefully enlarge the hole with a drill, or you could file down the edges of the pot shaft, both excessive, or you could just buy new knobs.

the old pots are grooved on the sides and the indentation in the middle goes almost all the way down. So i don't think its a solid/split problem, i just think Austin is a crappy guitar brand and like to make stuff that only works on their instruments

Hmm..

Actually, now that I think about it, all of my 25kOhm pots have slightly wider heads than my 500k's.

I'm British, also.

And yes, a 'knob' is generally accepted as a synonym for 'penis':

Knob - 1. A hard protuberance; a hard swelling or rising; a bunch; a lump; as, a knob in the flesh, or on a bone.
