So i was reading an article in the paper today about some astronaught claiming aliens exist and the US government is covering it up etc...

For sure, in some shape or form.

It's very likely they exist with the vast universe and all, but if they've visited earth like he claims isn't clear at all. I'd like to see his medical records honestly.

Chances are they exist. But if they are comparable to humans considering values and intelligence is something that bothers me more. I don't think so, and therefore I'm not big on meating them anyway. And I don't know why they should want to meat us (EDIT: 'cept for probing anuses, of course).

Just wondering, does anyone think that there could be another Earth in a different universe, that has the exact same human race, who are searching for the exact same things as us? Not in a different dimension or whatever, but like a near identical Earth and race. There's a name for it, but i can't remember. It was used in an article to describe the relationship between human and koala fingerprints.

EDIT: I meant in a different galaxy.

I think they exist but I really don't want them to. My reason? For all we know they can 100 times smarter than us.

I think its too unlikely that life only exists on one planet.

So yes.

Yeah, I don't want to "MEAT" aliens either...lol

Anyways, I think that it's pretty idiotic, ignorant and somewhat arrogant to believe that we are the only forms of intelligent life in the entire effin universe.

Yes, chances are that there is a planet exactly like ours, with exact equivalents of each person on earth doing the exact same things, with a guy named Slinov asking the same question you just asked.
That has been proven in theory, however said planet(s) has never been found, because nobobdy knows where to search for it, not to mention that it is probably horribly far away.

Exactly, but we don't know if the aliens' intelligence is even comparable to ours. Our intelligence is the result of millions of years of evolution, it's been created mainly by our ancestor's environment and living conditions. Our values and views of each other are no different. In conclusion, aliens from a different world will have had completely different evolutionary pressures (is that the right word?) on them, so their intelligence and values might be drastically different from ours. We possibly won't even recognise them as the intelligent beings they are and vice versa.

I think it's safe to say that their values would be different to us, but surely their intelligence could be comparable to ours?

Aliens were clearly the origin of socialist values. Karl Marx was actually an alien who came down to preach their values in order to start revolutions. The plan was for them to come down and visit us when all countries in the world had become socialist.

Hey mum, there's something in the back room! Hope it's not the creatures from above...

I think they might exist, but I don't think they've ever come to Earth, nor do I think they will anytime soon. I think we'll make first contact during some deep space expedition in a thousand years.

Eh, hard to tell. I don't mean one is smarter than the other (which will probably be the case anyway), but rather that it will be different. Just like there are certain forms of intelligence for humans (social intelligence, logic, linguistic intelligence, yadda yadda yadda), there may be equivalents for aliens.
The problem is that if they concentrate mainly on e.g. logic, they will seem emotionally cold and, for the lack of a better word, inhuman to us, hence we would have trouble coping with their ways of thinking and living and vice versa.
