for a splawn quickrod. i'll be using this amp to play mainly classic rock (gear 1) and maybe some bits and pieces of metal

i was thinking either alnico golds or vintage 30s

07 Fender American Deluxe Strat
07 Fender Custom Telecaster
09 Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster
09 Fulltone OCD V.4
10 Ibanez WH-10 V.2
09 Splawn SuperStock
10 Jet City JCA-20
97 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Yeh the SICK! bit sounds a bit stupid.

There's a speaker thread that I think needs to be stickied if it will help stem the flow of these threads.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

I'd go with a 4x12 with G12H (heavy magnet greenback) speakers.

Vintage 30s are better suited for modern metal, greenbacks (G12M and G12H) are best for classic rock.

American made Celestion clones, at a fraction of the price. And I hear they even sound better than Celestions.
Epiphone Dot
DIY Esquire w/Neovin Power Rock pickup
Vox AC30VR 212
Arion MTE-1 (LED clipping diodes added)
Vox Tonelab LE
Roland SDE1000 delay

By high-gain I don't mean stupid stuff. I just mean styles like Motley Crue or Iron Maiden

question

some speakers say they are 30 watts, does that mean it can only handle a 30 watt amp? or if in a 4x12 all 4 speakers can handle up to 120 watts in total

It's cumulative, so it all adds up basically.

I'd second the idea of a 4x12 with G12Hs. They're fat, tight, smooth and warm sounding. Notable users could be perhaps Hendrix, Townshend and even Metallica. I have one, it's VERY versatile and gorgeous sounding.

Perfect. It IS the sound of classic rock.
