22. "A Hard Day's Night" The Beatles (1964)
53. "Born on the Bayou" Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969)

I think it's crap.
Some of that stuff is ridiculous.
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes..... Why is that #21? That song has like one part to it. Sure, I like that song but it doesn't belong on this list.

because rolling stone likes to suck off jack white.

Any magazine who says that jack white and kurt cobain are better guitarists than eddie van halen or randy rhoads looses all credibility with me.

I agree completely, I'm pretty stoaked seeing The Mars Volta on there though

most of this list could almost be better described as "Most Recognizable Guitar Songs" as opposed to "Greatest Guitar songs"

cause as much as I love Nirvana... Smells like teen spirit is in no way and AMAZING guitar song, the song is great, but... over all it's an awesome song though

but that's just my opinion

Opinions is all it is. Anyone that thinks these things are true just, fail.

EDIT: And if it's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs on it, why isn't Smoke On The Water there? That is one of the most recognised riffs in the world. And anyone that disagrees can explain why Smells Like Teen Spirit is within the top 10.

3. "Crossroads" Cream (1968)
Okay...
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
4. "You Really Got Me" The Kinks (1964)
Can't remember it...so I doubt it's amazing...
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
5. "Brown Sugar" The Rolling Stones (1971)
The guitar solo isn't even my favorite part of this song.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
6. "Eruption" Van Halen (1978)
Okay....
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
7. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" The Beatles (1968)
Pretty good.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
8. "Stairway to Heaven" Led Zepplin (1971)
*Yawn*
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
9. "Statesboro Blues" The Allman Brothers Band (1971)
Probably the best guitar solo on the top 10, but that being said, The Allman Brothers Band have WAY better guitar solos. "Hot 'Lanta", "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", and especially "Les Brers In A Minor" top this one. In terms of Blues, their live version of "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'" is better than this one, too....In my opinion (don't freak out).
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
10. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Nirvana (1991)
I don't really listen to this song.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
11. "Whole Lotta Love" Led Zeppelin (1969)
*Yawn* Led Zeppelin has much better solos, and no I'm not talking about "Heartbreaker". Although I don't care for about 80% of Jimmy Page's live soloing.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
12. "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" The Jimi Hendrix Experience (1968)
Even though I prefer Hendrix over Stevie Ray Vaughan, he out did Hendrix in his cover. Plus, Hendrix has better solos. And Hendrix is seriously one of the best electric blues guitarists. I think he's better than B.B. King or Robert Johnson. His blues work is severely underrated because I think it's so much better than other popular blues guitarist's work.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
13. "Layla" Derek and the Dominos (1970)
Duane Allman kicks ass on slide, but this isn't his best slid solo.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
14. "Born to Run" Bruce Springsteen (1975)
Don't really listen to this song.
Quote by reedplaysgeetar
15. "My Generation" The Who (1965)
Wow, I love The Who, and saw them in concert, but they don't belong on a guitar solo list. I feel like almost all the music I've listened to by them isn't so centered on the guitar, unlike 90% of Classic Rock artists.
#17
How songs by The Kinks and the Stones made the top 5 is beyond me.
It's Only Rock and Roll, But I like It
#20
I thought it pretty much sucked.

It just affirmed the media's trend of canonising a select few accesible artists into an elite.

This isn't a guitar solo list, it's a list more about songs you probably should learn so as to play towards people I think. Like whenever you carry an acoustic or whatever. Some are just plain suck though.
#29
I always hate how most of them put Stairway at Number 1 don't get me wrong its an amazing song but i don't think that it should be #1
#30
I chose the third option. Needs more Prince, THEN we'd be talking. Purple Rain also deserves a little higher than 19.

The top few are VERY good choices though.

It's alright, but they gave too much credit to some songs.

Smells like teen spirit isn't really a song I think about when it comes to guitar. It isn't really inovative and it's repetitive. It's more vocals if you ask me.

But, it does have some appropiate songs on there. Layla, WMGGW, Purple Haze. They all fit.

I saw this the other week but I think that vood child should be higher over purple haze... little wing should be loads higher and jonny b. goode is influential but not the best guitar song.. beatles songs arent guitaring other than while my guitar gently wheeps, but thats eric clapton. I went for the third option, but I dont think its a great list.

edit: under the bridge should be real near the top! not at 90 something.

Listen to the guitar section in Smells like Teen Spirit (10) and then Under the Bridge (98) during the verses

Then, listen to Seven Nation Army (21) and compare it to Black Magic Woman (39)

Edit: I have nothing against Smells like Teen Spirit or Seven Nation Army (I like both songs), but this is supposedly a list of "guitar songs"
#35
I can't believe Tool was on there. Vicarious is awesome but Jambi probably would have been a better pick.
#36
Whoever wrote this list can't be a guitarist. They're not the songs someone who actually plays would choose.

I wish they would specify that this covers only about 2 or 3 different genres, and also don't mean ****.

how in the world did Tool actually make it into the "greates guitar songs" list, and why above all songs vicarious?? that is IMO one of their lesser songs by far, OR, I guess, simply their most mainstream and newest song.
