For those who don't know the title, its a show on channel V about a 'death metal' and a pop girl group trying to come together and create some kind of magical genre of music. I watched about 10 mins of it before i just couldn't stand it anymore. It really annoyed me how they portrayed the death metal scene. When one of the girls asked what the death metal group what they write their music about, one of them said that its about degrading women and all this other crap.

Has anyone else watched this sh*t? It really pisses me off how they are trying to present the image of heavy metal to people by obviously setting up 100% of the dialogue and chucking other ridiculous steroetypical sh*t thas has nothing to do with the style of music, for example, the group just sitting down and watching porn in every scene as if they were going on with their daily lives.

Has anyone else watched it and been affected by the way it portrays the genre? Its sad how channel v will try anything to get its popularity back by producing shows that are so materialistic and directed towards the dumb denomination of of the TV audience, much like MTV did.

It's from England, not by [V]. Although [V] is really ****.

Just change the channel. Everything on TV nowadays is crap.

They broadcast it tho...

EDIT: and what i should have said was that they're attempts at stereotyping heavy metal was laughable.

It's the classic play on the 'opposites attract' notion, deliberately combining two polar opposites in personality and stylistic evocation for the purpose of entertainment. It's bull**** TV. I personally think it's amusing to see how the two bands never interact and howthey generalise every genre based on minimal research, even though you do have to empathise that they usually have 5 minutes of a TV slot to describe and summarise a genre that you have been listening to for years. Just because they don't list Immortal, Annal Nakrath and some other obsecure dead**** balck metal band with crappy recordings doesn't mean that the show is ****. They have to fuel the stereotypes by presenting death metal fans as S&M fans, and while I do disagree with it, essentially, they do sing about death and destruction generally so it does reflect itself, as much as you may like to deny it and make pathetic excuses against it.

Still, it is a pretty lifeless and uninteresting show. The only thing it invokes within me is pity and inflated self-esteem that I must be one of the better song-writers in the amateur unsigned bands community, considering the songs they usually come out with are utter tripe.

I'm in a death metal band. The only thing I watch is porn and all of my songs focus around degrading women. Got a problem with it?

On a side note, I hope that all the mainstream music channels suddenly face a revolution of angry emo kids when they cancel an interview with MCR.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

Knowing Channel V, they will probably devote a whole two hours of programming to the crying fans.

So I'm an uptight prick just because I don't entirely agree with you? I do actually agree, it's definitely not quality TV, but it's not entirely bad they way they present the genres, better than most coverage that metal receives (the countless articles that state metal as evil and corrupting the youth of the world, influencing church burnings and what not).

The only really egotistical thing that I really said there was it made me realise how I could be one the better songwriters amoong the amateur community compared to the crappy bands they have on that show. Honestly, the bands that they have on the show are generally bands doing pub gigs for 10 people, and that's usually where they deserve to stay. One of the episodes I watched had these two bands, Severed Heaven and Lethal Fixx, and they were both terrible, not to mention the song they collaborated on was even more abominable.

Really, I think it was unjustified calling me a cocky, up-tight prick.

if you watch the documentary al the way through then you see the death metallers kind of portrayed pretty good, or at least not as bad as at the beginning. They kinda get redeemed.

from what i remember of that show that band was a bunch of wannabe shock rockers ... if anyone portrayed themselves as assholes it was the band themselves, but i don't remember the show itself flashing up any messages going ALL DEATH METAL GUYS ARE LIKE THIS! HUNT THEM IN THE STREET! ..
