so my band had this gig that went really well, and we got some really kickass pictures taken... the next day, i post them on my myspace, so does our drummer.

within the day, i get 23 photo comments, he gets 2.

sure, not a bad thing, but i'm just wondering. why do we guitarists get so much more attention???

What's more cool than busting out an improvised (good) solo?

Guitarists = closer to the crowd. Also, a lot of guitarists sing...so...that'll bring the crowd of people-who-literally-can't-hear-anything-but-the-vocals-in-a-song.

There's an answer.

Drummers kick ass though, I don't quite understand why they're less popular either.

Really?

Then you haven't listened to good drumming. Or you're an ass. Either way.

first of all, drummers are in the back whereas guitarists are upfront, when a spectator sees a band, they immediatly look to either the singer or the guitarist, the drummer is at the back, he's sitting hidden behind his drumset, you loose attention, the average audience member doen't focus on what is happening behind the frontman, and also chicks have always found guitar>drums, it's just a fact.

put a picture of some random guitarist noob from youtube, and then put a picture of keith moon rockin out on drums. I'm sure then drummers would look cooler.

And it's a shame that drummers are not respected as much as other musicians. It is a difficult instrument if you want to play like the greats (buddy rich, gene krupa, john bonham, keith moon...). Sure it's easy to keep a simple beat on drums, but so is playing a song full of power chords on a guitar.

EDIT: amen matx

Mainly, guitarist play recognizable melodies, drummers don't really play a real recognizable song to most people.
Btw, we all know Lars Ullrich is ugly as hell right ?

He probably just needs more stage presence. When you start your next gig, have him come out on stage first and play the drums to whatever your opening song is before you guys come in. Right then he'll be the center of attention/receiver of flung panties. Then give him a couple drums solos or something later.

If you don't boost his self-esteem, he'll kill himself. I know - he told me.

a wicked drummer definitely has a shot at stealing the show but they have to be noticeably good to a non-musician. guitar always looks cool seems tougher to play in comparison because drums are solely rhythmic and it lacks that melodic component that makes your favorite music memorable.

i disagree on this too.... sure its easy to keep a simple beat, but to be a good drummer it takes a while.

just like any other guitarist can play power chords and stuff...

No, not really. Drums are needed and everything, but I just think they're a boring instrument, they fail to impress me.
