I have a Fender Highway 1 Strat and a cheaper Jackson model. I kno that the fender is an overall better guitar but im just now joining a progressive rock/metalcore band. Would it be a good idea to use the Fender or the Jackson? I have a vox amp ad50vt and a line 6 distortion stompbox

Doesn't matter.

Whichever you feel most comfortable with. There is no such thing as a "shred" guitar, just personal preference.
