well my friend just bought an AC30 (he's a lucky bastard but he worked his ass off for it) and so he has no need for his little 5 watt valveking so he's letting me borrow for as long as i want (or until he wants it back )
while playing i noticed an improvement in tone and i also noticed that my stock epiphone pickups are muddy as hell and generally not very good
can you recommend some new pups for me? the sound i'm looking for is a very vintage lead sound like led zeppelin, ac/dc, other classic rock bands. I also play some modern rock, but nothing too high gain, mostly medium gain stuff
the clean sound i want is a sort of crisp and bright, almost overdriven clean sound.

Well, although I wouldn't suggest pickups until you really have a good solid amp. Look into an eq. But Maybe Duncan 59's or alnicos

Duncan Custom 5/59
Ibanez RG321MH (Air Classic/Tone Zone)
Fernandes Telecaster (Twang King/stock bridge pickup)
Blackstar HT-20 (Scumback 55 speaker/ Tung Sol tubes)
TC Electronic Nova Repeater
Lava Cables Clear Connect, Soar and Mini ELC

lower your pickups first before getting new ones... if they're too high you're gonna get mud and a weird annoying high pitched sound to accompany it.

I just got a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat. It's a humbucker-sized P90, and sounds killer. Very detailed high-end, and it's a pretty hot pickup as well. Also, even though it's a single coil, the 60-cycle hum isn't terrible. Judging by your tastes, it sounds like this would be a good fit. However, I'd agree that a good amp is more important that good pickups.

If you are on a budget then my top recomendation would be to get a set of cool heritage pickups from me but get them custom made with an alnico 3 magnet in the neck and alnico 4 in the bridge.

If you don't have a budget then I'd say get a set of my PAF's

Next best thing on a bugets would be Seymour Duncan 59 or swineshead runaway.

Next best thing not on a buget would be Bare Knuckles stormy monday
