I'm writing a novel based on the themes and characters of many progressive albums. I'm using Jethro Tull's Aqualung album for the basis of the conflict. I am also using King Crimsons' album "In the Court of the Crimson King" for the characters of the Crimson King and 21st century schizoid man. I am planning on making Rushs' Tom Sawyer as the hero of the novel.

Now I'm not going to make these characters have the same names. (That would just be silly.) They will just share the same traits and some of the same story lines as the songs. Such as Cross-eyed mary being an underage prostitute and 21st century schizoid man a corrupt and unsocial leader.

I was just wondering if you guys had any good ideas based on albums or songs.

I've planned to write this novel for quite some time and am just starting on it. I may make it into a series or something just for my friends to read. They like the music and everything and always like reading my stuff.

Jonathan Steele from W.A.S.P's The Crimson Idol. It is THE best concept album ever (imo). The story is beyond amazing, the music is awesome.. you can use Chainsaw Charlie, the Gypsy or Jonathan himself as a character.

There's a hardcore punk band from Boston, MA called Defeater. They just started selling advance copies of their new album, "Travels," which is a narrative concerning a man born in a broken home on the Jersey Shore. He wanders through life searching for meaning and ultimately dies, fading from a world that never wanted him.

It's very heavy and rather depressing, honestly. I think it's such a goody story though and maybe it will be of some interest to you. You can find the lyrics to the album here: www.myspace.com/defeaterma

By-Tor FTW!
The question is which By-Tor to use. The evil one from Snow Dog, or the good one from Necromancer

That would actually fit in really well since the story takes place after a nuclear winter. He could be one of the soldiers in the war before the winter that actually survived.

that character was taken from a book that was already written called Johnny Got his Gun (even though metallica didn't know that when they wrote the song)
