My cousin came up and downloaded a bunch of junk without scanning it.

The computer was giving error messages yesterday, and now it's just acting strange.

It has a lot of weird processes going that I've never seen before. It'll say that Firefox and IE are open when they clearly are not. If I end the processes, they come right back. I've also been getting a lot of pop-ups, most of which contain porn. I even get these pop-ups when I don't have a Web Browser open.

The PC no longer recognizes my MP3 player or anyone's MP3 Player. The Internet also won't work. I can go to Google (homepage) but when I search it says "Waiting for Google.com...." and never goes anywhere. Same happens when I try to navigate to another URL.

I'm running an AVG scan, but that'll take ages. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to fix it? Please help!

well why not let AVG do its job instead of whining to us, thats what AVG is for, just shut up and wait.

Run "ad-aware" and/or "spybot search & destroy", the pop-ups are most likely not related to a virus.

System Restore your computer to before your cousin went on it, it'll remove any viruses that installed themselves.

GREAT IDEA!!!

Thank you!

I've been running AVG and Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware found 162 infections and AVG found 6 Trojans, one of which is an Ad Loader.

I'll restore, thanks!

EDIT: That did nothing. I restored it to Friday morning (he came Friday evening) and everything is still there.

Like people have said, uncovert stuff is normally spyware, so run spybot S&D and ad aware, these will get rid of 99% of the spyware. But it's also a good idea to run a FULL virus check, although viruses tend to be more destructive... AVG is good, Avast is awesome...

I'm running AVG, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware all simultaneously.

Hopefully they'll pick everything up.

You found out you had a virus, and started plugging in a hd which your going to plug into your other computers as well

On topic: Download HijackThis and run it

1) Download HiJack This.
2) Download Process Guard.
3) Look up all files you see running in the processes tab of Task Manager. If something is suspicious, close it. When it likely tries to restart itself, force it blocked with Process Guard. Find the location of the item (Process Guard will tell you) and delete it (assuming you KNOW it's a virus). Repeat as needed.
4) Look at your log for HiJack This. Look up all items in it on google. Delete any found to be malicious.
5) Download and run Kaspersky AV, free 30 days.
6) Restart, check HiJack This, check Task Manager, do another scan. If not everything is gone, look up the individual processes in google finding what the virus is called and how to remove it.
