I'm decided that having a guitar with a floyd rose isnt for me.

I'm looking for good guitar around the $700-800 range or so for playing metal with a hard tail. I'd prefer no super-strat body styles.

Any suggestions?

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I've played the XPT700 with the FR on there. It felt/sounded pretty good for what it was. I kinda liked it, and it's definitely a metal machine.

Don't know about the Dean Z, but if it sounds similar to the Black Gold V it sounds great. If it wasn't for the V body (which i don't care for) I'd own it. Outstanding tone.

His amp is ace. I doubt it's mediocre, from what I've heard of it.

lol @ get a new amp comment.

I think I've narrowed it down the 3 guitars. I want my guitar to be a metal guitar, so it needs to have the looks and playability.

Amazing guitar.

I have a Viper-400.
But I gotta say the MH is better
Due to it's pickups (SD JB & 59) -they own EMG's

My local GC finally got one of these in and I've been really liking it the last few times I got it in my hands to play.

No superstrats? Why would you limit yourself like that?

I have 2 already, I'm looking for more of an odd shaped "extreme" body style. I'm selling a V-shaped guitar with a Floyd rose and I want to replace it with a similar guitar with a fixed bridge

gtfo

I'm saying I want a guitar that looks good and has the type of look i want, but doesn't play like crappy bronze bc rich. Good playability is an obvious given.

My bad, I didn't see your current guitars. Sorry about that.

I understand your need for a fixed bridge as well, I feel the same way, Floyds just don't have a place in my playing really. You could always get a tremol-no though?
