socialism is a less extreme form of communism, and the pure idealist form of communism is marxism, (which no one has ever actually tried)

Marxism = a political "procedure" that supposedly would lead to utopian paradise where everyone is a member of proletariat and everyone is equal.

Communism = an economic system in which the state controls and owns everything.

Socialism = a sort of mix between capitalism and communism in which the state runs the important industries such as electricity, health care, (some) construction. The state also has a pretty big say in the economy. There are areas of the market where the "free" market is allowed to roam.
