Alright so i was looking at some My Chemical Romance (please do not critisize the bands i listen to) tabs. In one of the songs the lead guitar part had something that looked like this...

D| 7
A| X
E| 5

Yeah... how exactly do i play that?

Oh, yeah. And in another song by MXPX it had songthing that looked like this...

D| 4 2 0
A| X X X
E| 3 3 3

Help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It's an octave of A. Play the sixth string with your first finder, and the fourth string with your third finger. Use your first finger to lay across (mute) the fifth string. As for the others, same thing. Mute the string marked "x".

the X means you should keep that particular string muted and only playing the numbered parts. So play the
D| 7
A| X
E| 5
as a chord but mute the A string.

1 finger on 5th fret. another on 7th on the right strings, then use the finger on 5th fret to block the next string so it doesnt make a sound when you strum

hope that helped

the ones on top are liek power chords except its just the root and the octave with teh fifth removed.
to play things like both of those types of chords is to play liek a power dhord and cover the dead string slightly with the index finger as u press down the root note
#6
okay you do this in purple haze to, you make a power chord exept make the ring finger up a string, and mute the middle string with your middle finger.

k got the top part... now what about the bottom?

take the same advise from above for the bottom,
just mute with you index

and this is not a stupid question at all, always ask if you're not sure,
so you don't play it incorrectly and develop a bad habit

I get that you mute with your index finger, but then what fingers would you use to play the second and third set of notes on the bottom?

oh sorry, do the opposite
play the 2 with your index, play the 3 with your ring (or whatevers comfortable)
and mute with the ring (or whatever)

Sorry that still confuses me a little...

First finger on the 2 and Third finger playing the 3 and muting the A string?
#12
↑↑↑ correct
but if it is more comfortable, use your 2nd finger instead of third
and then the 0,x,3 is simple, just use your 3rd finger to play and mute
