My Dad and my Step-Mom left for Turkey last night on their Honeymoon, and their plane is to land in Istanbul then they get a bus to their resort outside Istanbul.

They should have arrived near Istanbul this morning.

Now i don't know if they were actually in or even near Istanbul at the time of the attack but it's still quite unnerving to know 2 of my closest family were fairly close to something like this.

I hav'nt got a call as of yet from them, but i hope their OK. Knowing the security situation, they are likely to be escorted to a safer location, though there resort is like 40-50 minutes drive from Istanbul.

Kinda weird aye?

Anyone else had situations like these?

My step dad was on a bus rite before the London bombings. Kinda similar, he called right after though so we weren't that worried. I hope your parents are ok.

one of the trains that was attacked in london was one my aunt took home from work everyday, but lukily she chose a different train on the day of the bombing, but several people she knew were on the train.

I was just about to leave for Kings Cross 10 minutes before the London bombings. I was on holidays too. Pretty unnerving knowing you could have been there.

Ohh... I wish the best for your parents.

I "survived" the London Bombings too. We were there with our class and the bus driver didn't wanted to take us to the centre the last day. But he then accepted it. If he hadn't we would've gone by tube (exactly the one line which exploded)...
Damnit. 5 hours before I could call through to germany and tell I am okay. And again 3 hours to get out of London.

Just alot of Grizzly Bears.

I'm stunned by the amount of people who were caught up or avoided the 7/7 attacks.
I'm glad to hear your all OK.

hopefully your family will be fine.

yeh my aunt was near where the london bombings were, had me worrying all day. a lot of the people i was working with said they had people down there

Wow...That's pretty scary...Hope they're ok...My dad was almost caught in the underground bombings in London on 7/7. He got on the train that came after the one that blew. Pretty lucky he was late that day otherwise he would have been on that train.

My aunt and uncle were living in New York at the time of 9/11, they said they saw it happen right in front of them. Don't know how close they were or whatever, but that's all I know.

EDIT: It's kinda creepy just how many people on UG alone were so close to being on the one train during the 7/7 bombing. Glad to hear all of you are alright.

Strangely, my girlfriend and her family arrived in Turkey just before those explosions, but thankfully she was on the southern coast of the country.

And interestingly people mentioning the London Bombings, my Dad was driving a train when they happened, but it was in Wales and nothing happened here.

I hope you hear from your parents soon. You have to feel for the poor bloody turks who must be terrified all the time. They have a lot of deaths in violent incidents.
