well i think the main reason is no one likes them lol, les pauls arent worth 1000's, but everyone wants one so they charge the earth, the melody maker is not poorly made by any means

Instead of making it cheap through using cheap wood and stuff they just took out all of the electronic features, like a secon pup and using only one ****ty one.

I'd go for it though because you can change the pickup easily enough and it's made of mahogany.

And you can play rythem it'll just be really bright sounding

The Joan Jett sig is actually really good..

i don't know why its so cheap because its actually a very nice guitar, from what i've heard from owners.

I've developed a new-found respect for gibson, seeing that at that price.
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

I looked at it and thought it didn't have pickups. "Well THERE'S your answer!"

it looks like it has 2 pickups but what seems like a neck pickup is actually just a pickup-shaped extension on the pickguard that says "melody maker" lol.

Well it's a pretty bare bones model. It's just a straight slab of mahogany from what I can see. Much simpler tailpiece, no expensive maple carvetop, single P90, just volume, tone and output. In terms of features it's a simpler animal than a telecaster. Basically an LP junior by another name, without buying an expensive 50's re-issue. I'd be tempted to pick one up as a punk guitar, saves me getting something with Billy Joe's signature on it.

Seconded, replace the truss rod cover and that thing is a pretty good bargain beasty (Burstbucker 3, Killswitch, and Ebony fretboard for 650? Nice).

this.
EDIT: I played one a couple weeks ago, the bridge, which was a stop tailpiece (no lie) made the thing intonated horribly. of course, that can be swapped for an all-in-one TOM/tailpiece assembly.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Go gonna get... Banned... for posting that.

bye.

I'm quite keen to see if its still built to the same standard of quality as the other gibsons. If it is i'll be buying one of these and a squier CV duo-sonic (also depending on quality), instead of a gibson les paul BFG, and saving some cash in the process lol. I like these "student model" guitars.

I really don't like the pickguard shape on the melody maker, would it be possible to put an LP junior pickguard on on it? Or is their a big control cavity for the nobs like on a strat?

it's a pos because Gibson is cheap (not in terms of money)

I've heard it's good. I think they're cheap because they're simple and not as overhyped as LPs and SGs.
#23
Isn't it also because they are discontinued, I was looking at Gibsons discontinued list and the Melody Maker is on there.
Lets jump in a pool
