ok ive been playing bass over a year now and most of what i know is practical i hardly know any theroy the other day i decided its time to start learning it but i have no idea where to start!

so my question is whats the most important thing bass players should know theory wise?
I would suggest going to the musicians talk forum. Theory is theory. It is not instrument specific.

gm jack knows everything
scales and chords.. even though you dont play chords, if you want to harmonize with the guitarist good you should understand chords.
Bass players should know just as much theory as guitar players, it never hurts. The most important should be how to improvise. Know your triads, arpeggios and scales, and know when to use them. The other part would probably be how to "feel" the music.
