Hey guys,

I made a eddie van halen frankenstrat replica, and for a while I had it wired like he had his(one humbucker in the bridge, and a dead unwired single in the neck).

well, I want to use the neck pickup that I have just sitting there and the only extra switch I have is a 5 way.

Both pickups(humbucker and single) are 2 conductor pickups(white wire and ground wire)

how would I wire up:
1 humbucker, 1 single coil, one volume, no tone, and 5 way switch?

Yes I have searched the internet for a good hour looking for a wiring diagram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

get yourself a 3-way blade switch. they're not too hard to come by, I'll bet most music shops have a few laying around.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Yeah, for for a 3-way switch. it';; make life a lot easier.

I hate to be a pain in the butt, but guitar center is 45 minutes to a hour away. and all of the local music stores will charge a fortune for one(I've bought one before).

is there a way to do it with the 5 way?

how much is a fortune? $3?

Yeah they couldn't get away charging much more than that.

last year when I was buying one for my les paul, they charged me 25 bucks for one. Mostly because they only carried "offical" gibson replacement parts.

$13 on stewmac?

anyway....otherwise wire it with the bridge pickup and the neck pickup as the middle and as a bonus you get a builtin killswitch whenever you turn it to the neck position!

k, so since your HB is just two wire, coil splitting is out.
so your 5 positions won't all be different.

Possibilities:
1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge + Neck
3 - Neck
4 - Neck
5 - Neck
-or-
1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge
3 - Bridge
4 - Bridge + Neck
5 - Neck
-or-
1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge + Neck
3 - Neck
4 - Bridge + Neck
5 - Bridge
-or-
1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge + Neck
3 - Bridge + Neck
4 - Bridge + Neck
5 - Neck

now about that 5-way, we need to know what yours looks like.
does it look anything like one of these?

It is # 3

I like the
bridge
bridge/neck
bridge/neck
bridge/neck
neck
option

thanks for all the help.
now all I need to know is how to wire the thing up.

just saying, I don't think EVH has his neck pick up wired in. I read it about his signature guitar... It's just a humbucker that's all. The neck pick up isn't used. But I would have it in for versatility.

this should do it.
