I've gotten pretty good at sweep picking....and well...Obviously you can use like a maj7 arpeggio over a maj7 chord...

However...I am not sure how to use them say in a metal setting? like I never know how to use them..

I am slightly limited in music theory...(I'm trying to learn more theory atm)

Also...My solos seem to be lacking in something. I feel as if I have overused the pentatonic scale.

So now i've been using natural minor scales which sound more metallish and more dramatic....

But I can't seem to make up the same kind of solos that sound....like....eh kinda like randy rhoads style?

It always a) sounds too bluesy in the pentatonic scale
b) sounds too dramatic in the natural minor?

Most of you will say phrasing, however i feel that is not what I am lacking....

EDIT: how do people construct shred runs and stuff?

Find out or figure out what key the song is in. You can experiment with any of the
arpeggios in the key (there's 7 of them) over any of the chords.
