Yes, but usually if you're pushing yourself too hard/straining to play something.

If you're having problems with tendon/joint pains in your hand/fingers, make sure to:
1. warm up before playing (i.e. play slow, work your way up)
2. don't try to play something too fast for your skill level
3. don't tense up when playing.
