Hi fellow members,
I play only metal. Currently using a 6 stringer. Basically, I am looking for a budget mid end 4 stringer now.

I've looked up the Epiphone Thunderbird bass. First impression was I admired the look but didn't think of the lack of frets and I wouldnt like that for the long run. I usually like to scroll all the way up to 22nd fret or so.

Now, I am facing a road block. I need a decent, playable, good Korean or Japanese or even USA (if possible) 4 stringer that really worth all the money I pay for.

I will be shipping bass into my country from Japan via this website.
Kurosawagakki

Note: Roughly about 35000 - 55000 YEN (Japan Currency) is in my budget.

If you could help me out i'd be really grateful. I don't want to fall for another crap bass like my current GIO.

if you play only metal, you should get a 5 string
the low B string is really useful for that type of music.

just go to guitar center and play around with stuff in your budget. pick it out yourself, because nobody else can know if you're gonna like their weapon of choice or not.

Same apllies though. GO to a few music stores and get some rough ideas of basses you like the feel and tone off.

Also, as mentioned before, a lot of metal uses the low notes of a B string, so unless you are a fan of drop tuning, a 5 string or even another 6 should be considered.

Yea. In my country, you can't find much within that small budget and I don't mind with 5 strings. I can use my 6 stringer if I need to. Erm, just wanna ask you guys.

How is the Clive basses? The F&P 300. Anyone familiar with it?
Clive F&P300

Is it good? It looked really high end, but I see that it was priced 44,800 YEN. Not bad.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

You don't have a particularly big budget, so you don't have a lot of options open.

However, if my currency converter is fairly accurate in real terms, then I would look at getting a VM series Squire, jazz or precision (may need to go second hand). They are very solid basses and sound great for the price.

The abruptness of it just screams "pwned"

Anyways...

Sorry it's kinda hard to work around your budget and find things in a different currency. I pointed out these two 'cause they are decently respected brands that I know of on the list you provided and are within your price range.

You could go for one of those or an Ibanez SR

Ibanez... Metal

Damn near anything can play metal. It isn't as gear specific as guitar. The one bass I have seen that would really struggle has optical pickups, so it had an incredibly smooth jazzy tone that would struggle to cut through anything at all.

I think It might be above your budget, But I recently played a Burns Bison and thought it was amazing, although It was very much to my own taste - i think alot of people would disagree with me.
