I know a lot of professionally made guitar incorporate the coil tap function into a volume or control knob. I am looking to upgrade my prs se coustom with this function. I would like top have 2 separate coil taps (one for each pickup). Is it easy to turn both my volume and tone controls into coil tap switches? If so, how do I do it?

you'll need two push-pull pots. you could also just have one push-pull that taps both pickups.
something like this will work http://store.guitarfetish.com/pudppo50auge.html

edit: hm, they're out of stock. haha, my bad. but you get the idea. and to do it, you can find diagrams for that easily. one thing you do need to do is check if your pickups have 4 wires. usually, two will be soldered already and the remaining two will be taped off or soldered together. not sure how PRS does things though. good luck!

if your pickups have 4-conductor wiring, then it's very simple. if your pickups are only 2-conductor then i don't know what you do. the only thing is getting the correct diameter thread shaft to match the hole in the guitar's face.

your pickups may have different color-coded leads

if you have 2 conductor you have to unwrap the tape on the outside of the pickup, find the series link (the wire that connects the 2 coils together) and add extra leads. It's not hard just don't f*k up. The good thing about it, though, is that the series link is the outer winding not the inner... so if you f*k up that wire you could just unwrap a little and try again... just dont cut the coils and make sure you check everything with an ohm meter a million times before you reassemble.

the one thing i gotta ask tho is can u turn a volume or control knob into a push/pull switch in stead of having to buy another switch 4 the coil tap?

A push-pull potentiometer replaces the volume or tone pot that is currently there. It is simply a pot with a DPDT switch built in. Have a lookie http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Potentiometers_and_push-pull_pots/3/Potentiometers_and_Push-Pull_Pots.html
You cannot switch between humbucking and split coil without adding either a push-pull pot or a standalone switch. If you use a standalone switch it could even be just an SPST.
