So I've been listening to Dehumanizer lately and I think its really good, but I prefer Ozzy. Granted Dio is a hell of a better vocalist but I just don't think his voice suits the sound of Sabbath. I just wanted to know other people's opinions.

Dio is definitly has a more epic, powerful, and wider ranged voice, but honestly, Ozzy's lazy-sounding, sometimes off-tune singing is much more distinguished. It's less...say, professional, but also more iconic and distinctive, since about a billion bands try to sound like dio.
#3
Ozzy, his voice just fits in with the whole sound of Black Sabbath. Dio's a good vocalist, but I think his voice just doesn't sound right for Sabbath.

I think that each singer fits their era of sabbath well. for example on live evil when dio sung iron man, war pigs, nib and black sabbath.. it just didnt sound right, just like ozzy couldnt sing heaven and hell as well as Dio. I do however think that ozzy fits the feel and sound of the band better, to me Dio is much more of a power metal singer.
#6
Not that dio is bad, I love Dio era Sabbath. But the erie haunting and general tone and timbre of ozzies voice fits the music so much better.... its just a question of the creepy factor which sabbath made their theme from the get go

This.

It's a damn good thing they couldn't find another person with a PA system or Ozzy might not have been in Sabbath.

Black Sabbath is just not the same band without Ozzy, to be quite honest. While I'm not a huge fan of Sabbath I can admit that they were a better band when Ozzy was around.

Needless to say, this has been asked and answered 5.000 times since the metal thread opened in 2001 (Yes, I'm that long in here despite my register info) and in all 5.000 times Ozzy ozbourne has been proven best suited for the job..
I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.

Not really, Mob rules and Heaven and hell are 100% better than the last 2 ozzy albums, Even dehumanizer is a really good album. The current sabbath line up is fantastic, its how it should be, Dio's voice is amazing, and when i saw them with Ozzy, they were ****, his voice was Terrible.

Generally the people who perfer ozzy over dio, havent heard The first 2 Dio Era Album, which is a shame becase their missing out on the 2 finest albums since volume 4.

Depends entirely on my mood at the moment. There for awhile, my friends were constantly asking me this very question. I'm the odd-one-out in the group because I like both line-ups. So, I've considered this question from every possible angle, and my current mood is the only real deciding factor. Things I've considered:

Favorite Songs
My favorite Sabbath songs are "Black Sabbath," "N.I.B.," "Lord of this World," "Electric Funeral," "Hand of Doom," "Neon Knights," "Lady Evil," "Mob Rules," "I," and "TV Crimes". It's an equal mix of Ozzy and Dio eras, so no help there.

Favorite Ozzy Song vs. Favorite Dio Song
Favorite Ozzy Sabbath song: "Black Sabbath."
Favorite Dio Sabbath song: "I."
I can't choose between them. They're both just too d*** good. So, no help there.

Signature Songs
"Paranoid" is not my absolute favorite Ozzy song, but it's the first thing I think of when I think of the Ozzy line-up. "Heaven and Hell" holds a similar place for the Dio line-up. Again, I could never choose between these two. I love them both.

Favorite Albums
Ozzy: Paranoid
Dio: Dehumanizer
Again, I can't pick one.

And, the answer's always the same, no matter how I look at the question. Heck, at one point I even compared my favorite album art: Black Sabbath vs. Mob Rules. I couldn't pick a winner there either.

Bottom line:
Ozzy = creepy
Dio = epic

It's all a question of what I'm in the mood for at a given time.

They both rock like gods.

I like both of them for Sabbath, but Dio is a way better singer. I don't think Ozzy would sound right singing the Dio era Sabbath, and Dio wouldn't sound right singing Ozzy's stuff.

EDIT: And if you haven't heard any of Dio's stuff with Sabbath, check out "Heaven and Hell", because that album kicks ass.

I agree with you Nirvana6722. Even though Dio is technically a better singer, it really doesn't sound like Sabbath without Ozzy to me. There is something about Ozzy's voice that is so dark and eerie that just fits with the Sabbath sound.

Vocalists: Dio > Martin > Gillan > Ozzy > Hughes > Gillen (Main singers)

Drummers: Ward > Powell > Appice > Rondinelli > Bevan (Main drummers)

Bassists: I don't count any other than Geezer. (But Bob Daisley's bass in The Eternal Idol was good)

My Sabbath opinions > yours.

The Ian Gillan era, mostly because I love his voice...

But, music-wise, the best era was the Ozzy era and the Martin era.

I must be one of the few people who think Dio sounds even better than Ozzy on Ozzy's stuff. When Black Sabbath (not Heaven and Hell) played live last, how did Ozzy do Dio's stuff?

Ozzy, never in his career, had to sing a Dio song. It's because he can't. He is nearly monotonous. (That's not a bad thing) And Iommi knows that and won't play any Dio or Martin era songs.

Dio on the other hand had to endure the back-catalogue of all the Ozzy material. Listen to Live Evil or Cross Purposes Live and you can see Dio and Martin singing Ozzy material really well.

One could also say:

Blaze-Maiden is not Maiden.
Akesson-Opeth is not Opeth.
Ripper-Priest is not Priest.
Stephens-Savatage is not Savatage.
Ehmke-Blind Guardian is not BG.

But I have a name for people like those: Idiots.
