What are your favourite lines ever written? Who wrote some of the best CR lyrics ever?

I think Imagine by John Lennon is one of the best.

Stairway is great of course. My favourite lines in the song is:

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him

Dear lady can you hear the wind blow
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whisperin' wind

Its actually ridiculous how much great poetry there is out there. When you start thinking about Dylan and everybody like that it starts to get crazy. I was just wondering what your favourites are?

Backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the covers
"Gonna talk to you," my daddy say
Said, "You ain't seen nothin' till you're down on a muffin
And you're sure to be a-changin' your ways"
I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
All the times I could reminisce
'Cause the best things in lovin' with a sister and a cousin
Only started with a little kiss

Love that line...

I actually like the part before that:

Racing around to come up behind you again.

"Big Balls" by AC/DC are the greatest lyrics ever

Well I'm ever upper-class high society
God's gift to ballroom notoriety
And I always fill my ballroom
The event is never small
The social pages say I've got
The biggest balls of all

I've got big balls
I've got big balls
They're such big balls
And they're dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

And my balls are always bouncing
And my ballroom always full
And everybody cums and cums again
If your name is on the guest list
No one can take you higher
Everybody says I've got
Great balls of fire

I've got big balls
Oh, I've got big balls
And they're such big balls
Dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

Some balls are held for charity
And some for fancy dress
But when they're held for pleasure
They're the balls that I like best
My balls are always bouncing
To the left and to the right
It's my belief that my big balls
Should be held every night

Oh, we've got big balls
We've got big balls
We've got big balls
Dirty big balls
He's got big balls
She's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

Oh, we've got big balls
We've got big balls
We've got big balls/And I'm just itching to tell you about them
Dirty big balls/Oh we had such wonderful fun
He's got big balls/Seafood cocktail
She's got big balls/Crabs
But we've got the biggest balls of them all/Crayfish

Oh, bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Bullock sucker
Eh-yeah

the rain song by led zeppelin

t is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from
time to time.

Talk Talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I seek the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall...It's just a little rain...

it nvr fails to astound me how well written led zeppelins songs are. and the meaning each word holds.

its a real pity music has evolved into so much crap nowadays.
#29
I'll agree with TS on stairway. Listening to that part he listed backwards is pretty cool too cuz of the accidental satanic message.

I also love lyrics to songs by The Police, especially king of pain and de do do do, de da da da.

King of Pain

"Theres a little black spot on the sun today,
Its the same old thing as yesterday,
I have stood here before inside the pouring rain,
with the world turning circles running round my brain,
I guess im always hoping that youll end this reign,
But its my destiny to be the king of pain"

The whole song is gold, but im not gonna type all the lyrics

De do do do, De da da da

"And when their eloquence escapes you,
Their logic ties you up and rapes you."

Epic line.

Edit: I forgot to say I cum blood. I know it doesnt fit, I hate the joke, I just thought id go ahead and get that out of the way so no one else says it in this thread.

I prefer this lyric:

You men eat your dinner,
Eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken
Any man ever seen — yeah, yeah.

though technically it's a blues lyric
Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time
For y'all have knocked her up.
I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe
I was not offended
For I knew I had to rise above it all
Or drown in my own shit.

^George is doing John Lee Hooker. These lyrics aren't in Hooker's One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer but they are from Hooker's "House Rent Blues".

My vote for best line in classic rock is Hendrix Red House

It's alright cause if my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will.
