i'm trying to write a two piece acoustic instrumental song and i cant seem to create a good rhythm part... i would like to do something more than just strum chords but not get too fancy, any advice???

You could throw in a few simple bass or treble run bars you make up and like between cord bars, especially in the chorus if you have one[?]

Hmm...

You can try adding some extra notes to normal chords to expand them. Also having 'sustained notes' in chord progressions can help you ie:

-3--3--3--3
-3--3--3--1
-0--0--2--2
-0--2--0--2
-2--3--X--0
-3--X--X--X

Or maybe having open strings ring on all chords ie:

-0--0--0
-0--0--0
-X--X--X
-7--9--5
-7--9--5
-5--7--3

or a low open string that kinda sounds as a substitute root note:

-0--0--0--0
-1--6--3--10
-2--7--4--9
-2--7--5--10
-0--0--0--0
-X--X--X--X

These things always work really nice in acoustic guitar. Hope this will help u a bit
