So today I'm trying to get my license, and on the GA test there is something called a "quick stop". You are supposed to speed up to 25 mph and then stop quickly. What I want to know is, are you supposed to slam on the break and make a jerky stop or am I supposed to press down hard and let up to make it smooth?

Hard on the brakes, dip the clutch toward the end so you don't stall.

Brake as hard as you can. It's supposed to be an emergency, like if a kid ran out in front of you.

As someone said, press the clutch once you've started braking to prevent you from stalling.

Shouldn't be a problem if you have Anti Lock Brakes.

I do, but I've noticed that the car still jerks quite a bit. I mean, the car HAS had brake problems before though.

That looks so wrong :P

not sure about autos - but the whole point of emergency braking is testing out your reflexes if a pedestrian walks out in front of you. Since being an Auto n00b, id say you only have to worry about the braking since the clutch is taken care of by the car.

Just don't accidently hit the accelerator...ive seen someone do that...many facepalms ensued...

Just stop in the shortest time without locking up the tires.

This.

I had to do the same thing on my motorbike test and I was advised to not pull the clutch in until the last moment as that would allow the engine braking to assist my retardation, bringing me to a stop quicker. However, if you're in an automatic, just break fast and make sure you're in control (no wheel lock, or fishtailing).

That's the least of your worries!

Stop the car first before fellating the instructor.

I got a question for the driver's test (which I will be taking soon).

Do I have to parallel park? Cause that alone might make me fail >.<.
