Is there a way to lock the edge III bridge so I can tune the guitar down a half step easily (so it's not floating)?

That was horrible advice, never do that again.
It's called a tremolo block. There's some commercially sold ones, such as Tremol-no, but you can make your own. The goal is to get a block of wood or similar object
on either side of the bridge, in the back cavity, so as to make it retain and stay in the same, hopefully parallel position to the body.

I use a ruber eraser on my GRG170DX, fits suprisingly well.
