My fretboards starting to get layers of "gunk" on it, like a grey colored substance that's hard to get off. Anyone know of a good way to clean it off? I've heard that lemon oil is good but I'd prefer to not have to go and buy a specific cleaning product.
Any help is appreciated because it looks pretty nasty >.<

i changed my strings yesterday, cleaned off the board with some rubbing alcohol (not too much, just pour a little onto a paper towel and wipe it down)

worked fine for me

My fretboard is ebony with mother of pearl inlays if that makes any difference?
If not then I'll try the rubbing alcohol, just don't want to mess up my fretboard
