Alright, so hopefully this is the right place. I just tore apart my Strat to give it a bit of a clean up, and I noticed there's some rust on the coils (and a bit on the Duncans as well). Would it be alright if I Q-tipped a bit of CLR onto it? Or would that mess up the electronics? It's on the top of the coil, the little silvery magnetic circles. I'd appreciate any help.

Are you talking about the pole pieces? The part you still see when the covers are on and such? In that case yes, its fine.

Don't clean rust from your pickups. Most people that try and clean rust from their pickups end up with little particles of the rust being caught by the pull of the magnets and sucked into the coil of the pickup. When the rust makes it inside the wire coil it cuts the wires and kills the pickups.

If you just leave the pickup along the rust isn't going to hurt anything.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.
