Well i want to join the jazz band next year to play guitar but you need to be in the concert band also, and i dont want to play bass and they dont have an option for electric guitar in there, so what other instrument should i take up?
Im definitely taking drums if i dont need a set @ home, but if not then what?

Accordions are badass.

Seriously though, Sax sounds like a good suggestion.

Naw, really, play trombone! Trombone is God's instrument. The angels get poopface trumpets because they're not good enough for them .

And plus, I play trombone :P. And yeah, I'm a god on it. And yes, I get all the solos in jazz band, and concert band, and marching band .

Alto Sax FTW!!!!!

Taking up a brass instrument as a secondary instrument is not a great idea, especially throughout high school, because you need years to build up your chops. So stay away from them!

Id go with percussion. Most percussion stuff is quite easy. Since its concert band, and not marching, the only challenge i think would be something like Marimba/xylophone/vibraphone, but i dont know for sure.

I doubt you'd be able to learn an instrument quickly enough to play in a jazz environment. Why wouldn't your jazz band have guitar? Unless they have a keyboard they won't have anyone to lay down chords. Play bass.

Ah my bad, I misread. I'd say percussion then, the kids in my percussion class at school are idiots yet they can still somehow play decently.

ALTO SAX!!!

i have been playing mine for 10 years, still love it heaps! most people give up on it though, sax is all about finesse, most people generally blow too hard into it (yes i realise the sexual pun im over it after 10 years haha)

once you get into sax for the concert band you will probably wanna do it for jazz band too! haha

hi 5 for sax-guitar hybrids!

take up drums.

drums were my first instrument, they are wicked awesome fun.

Also, the world needs more drummers so people can stop asking me to join theirband and play drums for them. I want to play guitar in a freaking band.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Tuba is easy to learn and you won't be getting terribly hard parts in a concert band for tuba. Draw back is you are the foundation of the sound and you control the pitch as the tuba player.
