This is going to be in Alphabetical order. The purpose of this is to hopefully keep only artists allowed in this forum in here. This way we can remember what is allowed in here and what should go somewhere else. Of course just because it isn't on this list doesn't mean it isn't allowed. Another intention of this list is for other people to find new artists/bands. Hopefully this list will help in one way or another.
If you know any artist(s) that isn't on the list then suggest it in a post and state whether it is Shred or Prog!

No problem. If I may, I think it would be a more helpful list if it was separated into two (guitarists and prog bands).

Also, Terry Syrek should be added to the list.

Yeah, it probably would be better if they were separate, I'll separate them.

Shred -

These guys have solo projects -
Carl Johan Grimmark (of Narnia) - http://www.myspace.com/cjgrimmark
Hizaki (of Versailles) - This is him playing a song from his solo album, please disregard the clothes, lol - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDjumx-mY-Y

Gus G. of Firewind, though he doesn't have a solo project. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s6ANWzyoO0

You may want to add Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce, as much as people hate them they do shred, and as of recentlly very well live, not just in the studio.
Along with that Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold possiblly.

Prog -

Aletheian - http://www.myspace.com/aletheian
Becoming the Archetype - http://www.myspace.com/becomingthearchetype
Between the Buried and Me - www.myspace.com/betweentheburiedandmeband

I'll update this later when I get home if I get the chance. Thank you for the revive and the contribution. I have been meaning to revive the two threads...I have such little time now though.

Just wondering, why wont you add Gus G. to the list?

I did.

They don't need to be here in my opinion. They are never spoken in here and are always moved to a different part of the forum. So from my gathering they shouldn't be on the list, they don't really pertain to shred, prog, or 80s music. If a mod could verify something of the sort this this topic it would be nice. At the beginning I was hoping to make a list of artists available for discussion. This goal though has been difficult because of me not knowing every artist and whether or not they belong in this forum.

Ok, makes sense. This is getting to be a pretty nice list though, I'm finding a bunch of artists I never heared before and I'm sure a few others are too, so something good is coming from it.

Yeah, it does seem to actually be coming along nicely. Nice to hear that you are finding some new music, and hopefully others are too; more you hear the better.

these are all awesome prog bands/artists....
even though the metal forum may claim some of those, they're prog bands...

Pretty much.

I resigned. Time and motivation were getting scarce, I wasn't worthy of my position.

Would Uli Jon Roth be considered a shredder? Sky concerto sounds quite shreddy to me.
#38
Why would The Who be on that list? Maybe they do something proggy occasionally, but they aren't a prog band.

Alan Parsons Project
Koenji Hyakkei
King Crimson
Liquid Tension Experiment
Lye By Mistake
Muse
Porcupine Tree
Protest the Hero

You forgot George Lynch, he deserves to be in the shred list
