I can play fine on the lower part of the guitar but when I play higher (my trouble starts at around the 14th fret or so) it starts to get sloppier and all around much worse.

What can I do to try to fix this? Should I play scales starting higher up or should I learn a bunch of higher pitched solos or what? Any help appreciated.

That is just a reality of the fact that the neck on all guitars gets wider (across the fretboard) than it is lower on the neck. there's really no way around that trouble other than getting used to it.

And that's what I'm asking: what's the best way to go about trying to get used to it?
