i know how to change pickups but how do you do it on a hollow bodied guitar with no rear accses????

You'd have to reach in through the pick-up hole and bring the wires out. Then just solder it and put them back in

Aye, can be fiddly as hell, but it's doable.

yeah, i'm hoping nothing ever goes wrong with the electronics in my sheraton because of how awkward it'll be to sort out.

I think gretsch made these hollowbodies with a big hole in the back, covered by a leather pad which was buttoned on in the 1960s (george harrison's double cutaway was like this i think)... but that gets in the way of the tone a little afaik.
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.
