ok. so i am about to buy a jackson sl2h soloist. i am not that great at guitar, i would say the hardest song i can play is either bark at the moon or cowboys from hell or symphony of destruction. i have a very small knowledge of theory. but, i am extremely in love with guitar playing and i usually try to practice about four hours a day. i know that i will be playing the rest of my life and i plan to be extremely good in the future. idc how long i have to practice. i will dedicate myself. if i get this guitar am i considered just a stupid rich kid with way to expensive gear for his skill level? i do practice a lot

if you feel that you're ready for this gear, and you've worked hard enough to earn it, don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't have it. Mind you, i'd prefer that you paid for it yourself, but thats just my lack of funds .

you won't be a stuid rich kid if you saved for it with blood and sweat.
plus don't think so much of what others say, half of them are only criticizing you because they are self conscious about their own talent.

um....who cares what people think of you?
If they dont like you for having a nice guitar they're just jealous ****s.
if I could afford a sick guitar I'd totally get one.

dang that is a hella nice guitar (just googled it), I can see why you are worried.
I still stand by what I said but I got two things to say

1.) don't let a single person touch it, people WILL break it if they are jealous enough
2.) keep all eyes on it when your in public (school, music stores) because rule one still aplies

Agree with what the peeps say, working for your gear just makes you that more thankful and appreciative. in the long run it will surely keep you workin on your guitar skills for the payoffs.but nothing wrong with rich parents who want to spoil you either.just practice practice practice and make the gear and guitar sound likes its supposed to.Keep on keepin on!

I'm in the same bucket with you man. I can't play great, I'm not going to claim I can, but I'm working to save up for a guitar - and a nice one at that. My parents aren't too inclined to help out at all, so I got a job and I'm saving up.

The way I see it is, if YOU earn the money then YOU can spend it on whatever you want. If your mom and dad buy you a two thousand dollar guitar after a year of playing, you're spoiled. If after a year of play you decide YOU want something really nice, and you work for it, you're already leaps and bounds better than everyone who will call you a spoiled rich kid, because they can't even appreciate the fact that you put a lot of your time in to get the thing, because you love the guitar that much.
