Hi guys,

This is my first post in an age and hopefully I'l get some decent advice form you good folks.

This one goes out to the UK UG'ers really although some of the more knowledgeable international users might know.

I have a 96 PRS Ce22 which is need of a refret badly as im a bit heavy handed and the frets tend to wear a bit fast in certain places.

Im however paranoid as you like when it comes to letting people I don't know work on my instruments, especially the expensive ones. Id love to do it myself but I really like this guitar and wouldn't want to do a botch job.

Does anyone have any experience with any good luthiers that can do the job without damaging my precious?

If so how quick was the turnaround? what was the final setup like when you get it back. Basically as much info as you guys can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hal.

I know a guy in Wigan called Ritchie Thompson - might be a bit far for you but he's good. He does a lot of work for Trevor Wilkinson and also for a shop in Warrington called Frailer's who specialise in vintage stuff.
Actually called Mark!

The only person (near to me at least) I'd let ANYWHERE near my most prized axes is Charlie Chandler. His little shop "Charlie Chandlers Guitar Experience" in Hampton Wick is what I've always used (other side of the river to Kingston Upon Thames shopping centre.) He's also got another shop in Kew which is bigger but I've never used it for repairs before (but I presume it'll all go to the same guy.)

It's not the cheapest work in the world but it will be absolutely perfect, you can even get the PLEK treatment if you are so inclined.

This is very helpful indeed guys, cheers! Maybe there should be a section on this site listing as many professional luthiers as possible so that anyone can just go on here and check out who their local luthier is? Listed by country/region. This is the ultimate-guitar site after all....
