I was just wondering if most people tap with middle finger, index finger, or pick. I always thought it was more comfortable to tap with my middle finger.

middle finger is the finger to tap with IMO.

you should have put up some crazy option like tapping with your pinky or your thumb.

I know what you mean, i tap with my middle finger just when its a slow one part tap. But when its something faster and long i use my pointer.
Whats the longest word?

Any finger, never the pick.

I rarely do tapping with just 1 finger from my picking hand...it gets kinda boring. Multifinger taps are where it's at.

I usually use my middle finger, if I want a different sound I use my pick, after that if it feels more natural to use a different finger (or any other body part for that matter) then I will.

nobody solely taps with those fingers, but multi finger tapping uses those fingers.

plus it would have been funny because people would have actually voted for it.
#16
I use my middle finger for 1 or 2 string taps but if i am trying 3 or 4 then i'll slip my ring finger in there
#17
well, I hold my pick with the index so therefore I use the middle finger for tapping, so I can go back to normal playing fast

I tap with all four, it just depends on the context of the tap. I mainly use my middle though. I used to use my index, but the middle turned out more comfortable.

Na, middle finger is the most comfortable for me (Even though I suck at tapping).

I just tried both of these

It works!
#22
hmm, i just tried it now. I do both, don't have any preference

I'll hold pick between the thumb and index, for tapping with either finger.
Just hold it slightly farther up the finger so you can tap
#23
I actually tried with my teeth once. The string got stuck in my braces. I did it when a friend was over so it was extra embarrasing. But i use my middle finger to tap usually.

when i was learning how to tap i used my index finger, but when youre playing a song and it starts to call for tapping, middle finger is the easiest/only possible(?) way to tap without losing your pick

Index requires me to change how Im holding my pick...

And pick just sounds ew.

So, Im a middle kind of guy.

Its best for going right from a picking lick into a tapped part and whatnot.

Index when i'm playing without a pick, middle when i'm playing without a pick, index and middle with 2 finger tapping, add the ring finger for 3 finger tapping, if I decide to do tapping exercises when I practice i'll practice with each individual finger.
I don't bother with 4 finger tapping, wanky chromatics has a limit and it can't be used often, and the only time I ever use 3 finger tapping is to harmonise something.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

I use all

For a long or fast tapping part. Ill use my index, I hold the pick with my middle, against the palm of my hand. My index is stronger, and it usualy is for everyone.

If its just a tap. Like one tap during a solo or whatever. Ill use my middle, because its quick and I can get going again easily.

Ill use my pick sometimes. Not much, just for a different sound.

I use all of the poll options for tonal differences, between finger and pick, and depends what patterns I'm tapping. If it's one string triplets, index, if it's more complex, both of those and third.
#36
Depends. If i start playing by tapping it is the index but if a riff goes into tapping it usually the middlefinger.
#37
I tap with my index, and hold my pick between my thumb and middle finger.

To those who tap with their index finger, where do you put your pick?

Or do you hold it Van Halen style, with your thumb n' middle finger?

i like my middle finger best because you can still hold onto your pick and tap.

But there's that whole delay of putting the pick in your mouth before you go tap. I don't like that.

Eight finger.
I wish. I'm not a Chris Broderick protoge.

Middle's most comfortable for me, unless I'm doing fast stuff. Then it's the index.
