I'm looking for an amp to buy that around 300-600 dollars. I play pretty much only metal and started about one year ago. I am very much interested in a tube amp but I don't know if that's what is right for me. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as some brands and models so when I go to the local shop i'm not wasting my time :-).

Thanks UG!!

+1 to used. With some patience, you could score a Peavey JSX or 5150 combo, or maybe a Genz Benz El Diablo head for a little more. A Randall RG is another option.

peavey transtube amps are the way to go,you could get a 2x12combo for your price range, let me tell you these things are a beast

Definitely go for a used Peavy 5150 combo if all you want is a heavy as BALLS metal tone! But if you want a good clean tone, don't go anywhere near it. I severely recommend that you look on Craigslist or ebay for a 5150. If you're lucky, you can find one for around $400 and they are METAL AS BALLS!!!!!

Balls are Metal?

Hm,

I would have thought that balls were more... um... Disco?

Yeah, I had the Randall RX120D for 2 years. Match that baby up with a Boss MT-2 and you got all the metal tone you can get with under 600$

Semi-Fail.

MT-2 is ultra digital.

Genz Benz makes a 100watt El diablo combo, as well a 60 watt one. both extremely good amps for metal

I'm liking the Peavey idea. There's not too much on craigslist and to me it seems more logical to buy a tube amp new...

But anyways,

Valveking 112 v. 212

What are the major differences and is it worth an extra 200 bucks..
(I don't gig or in a band for now, but will be soon..)

youd get more headroom with the 212

but i dont think its worth an extra 200.. for that price you can buy a 2x12 cab and hook it up..

Hell no. The Line 6 Uber-Metal is digital. MT-2 isn't. You can tell them apart like night and day.
The MT-2 sounds great with that amp.
But I also had EMG's in my guitar. That might change things a little bit.
If you need proof, listen to the songs I recorded on my profile.
It depends on which amp you pair it with.
It sounded absolutely amazing on that stack.
I swear, if you want the sickest tone for metal with your budget. Go with the RX120D paired with the MT-2. IMO, That's about as good as you'll get for now.
