We plan on making a multi-sectioned song.

You know, like:

Happiness is a Warm Gun - The Beatles
Paranoid Android - Radiohead

(I dunno anything else)

Can you guys give me some songs we can use as inspiration?

Go see U2, then you can say you contributed money to Bono's giant Irish tower built out of the blood, tears, and the hopes of African children.

Quite a few Zeppelin songs have different sections eg: Stairway, Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love.

Opeth
Dream Theater
Tyr
Behemoth
Strapping Young Lad

Any of their songs will give you inspiration on non-repetitive multi-section songs.

Progressive music inherently has a lot of different sections...usually poorly structured. But multi-sectioned nonetheless.

...modes and scales are still useless.

Listen to lots of prog rock. You'll realise that irregular beats everything, irregular song orders (not like: intro, verse, chorus, verse, hook, chorus, outtro), irregular time signatures, irregular chord progressions.

Prog is basically the only rock, other than indie rock, I find myself listening to lately.

EDIT:

Listen to better prog.

EDIT2: King Crimson, Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Umphreys McGee (prog/jam band) - They're my favourites lately, you should check them out.

Metatron - The Mars Volta
Coma - Guns N' Roses

Both spring to mind.
You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.
