i was looking for the most badass pickups for hard rock.. I know its more of something of personal opinion but, i guess the way i put this question kinda eliminates that

What are some AWESOME pickups that just deliver pure distortion, even on the clean channel. Kinda like Seymour Duncan Livewires have decent gain on clean setting, but is there something more than that?

EMG would be my preference. Keep in mind that 90% of tone comes from the amp.

i'm into active pickups, i just want to be able to plug my guitar into a clean setting amp and give massives amount of distortion ^_^ for bragging rights ^_^

What are you going to brag about?
That your pickups are one dimensional?

What kind of amp are you using?
Guitar:
Schecter Omen 6 (Dimarzio X2N & Tone Zone)
Amps:

Emg 81, and 85
If you're a hot chick you've probably got a good chance with the lead singer or guitar player, If you're a little bit overweight, you should probably go for the drummer. If you're a dude, go for the bass player

i'm gonna buy a peavey 6505

if having a 6505 isnt enough to brag about, then something is wrong with you. my only suggestions are: buy a soldano instead, get surgery to make your penis hang to the floor, or figure out how to get hayley williams and zooey deschanel drunk and bang them

I've went passive after playing 81's for years. And trust me I love that active sound but it's funny how a good passive can sound so much more organic and heavy. The super 2's are good. For some reason as crazy as this sounds... ive owned duncans, dimarzios, emg's over the years... best pickups ive ever played with are the stock pickups in my schecter c-1 exotic. I know I didn't expect that either. They just sound so damn thick while still sounding really clear and tons of distortion.

I believe the best tones come from medium output pickups. Rather than relying so much on pickups to provide the gain, just turn your amps gain up.

All the best toney players dont use gobs and gobs of gain and you can still sound great for hard rock / metal.

You can't do that, distortion comes from your amp, not your pickups.

+1. and if you want brootal distortion, buy a high gain amp. then buy some active or passive pickups once you know what to do with your tone.

for actives, Duncan Blackouts and Livewire. never been a fan of EMGs.
for passives, Dimarzio Super Distortion, Tone Zone, X2N and Dactivators, Duncan Custom, Distortion, PATBs, and Alternative 8.
Ibanez RG321MH (Air Classic/Tone Zone)
Fernandes Telecaster (Twang King/stock bridge pickup)
Blackstar HT-20 (Scumback 55 speaker/ Tung Sol tubes)
TC Electronic Nova Repeater

I also prefer low to medium output pickups. But I guess some players prefer to hear their pickups, not their guitar.

agreed.

not to mention, the 6505's clean channel isn't all that clean anyway.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

+1 to Dave and the Seagal. The pickups don't give distortion, they send the sound you make on the guitar to the amp (in other words, the signal from guitar to amp)
