I want a new guitar for around £300-£500 and I play mainly Indie/Alternative such as The Libertines, The Hives, Arctic Monkeys and The White Stripes.

At the moment I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Junior, that I've been rocking for a good few years.

I think I should get an Epiphone Casino, an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus or a Fender Jaguar. What should I get? Other suggestions are welcome.

I've got a 75 watt Line 6 spider III.

hmm may i be the first to suggest that you should stick with your current guit until you get an amp that isn't a piece of ****, tonally of course.

I think i'd look at an amp first.... sorry if that's not what you want to hear... What kind of guitar do you have NOW?

you do know the price difference between an epiphone les paul and a FENDER jaguard right?
#16
are you serious you have a line 6 and you are thinking about a new guitar????
they all sounds the freaking same through that amp lol hahaha get a nice amp!!!

oh and like megakravitz said the jaguar is about double the price lol haha

Casino or Jag... I like my casino allot and play all those bands and it works well, only problem is playin solo's really high up the fretboard is hard, but if it's mainly for rythmn buy the casino. Tho you might want the les paul, if your playing pidgeon detectivesque lead stuff... tho I think there **** personally.

Edit: Also.. you can get jag's for under £500... so I'm not getting the whole price thing :S
Guitar: Epiphone Casino
Amp: Laney VC30-212

there isn't much...

I'd recommend the TS a highway 1 strat for that money or a MIM with bridge and pickup upgrade. I'd take the latter...

Your amp isn't great and that crush is just as bad, if not worse. For that money you could get a good valve amp like the Laney VC-30. If you look around you could get a MIM strat and a VC-30 for 500. I got my strat for 250 new and you could probably get a used VC-30 for 250, if you don't mind used gear...

you may be able to get decent used gear for that money, but i would find a guitar and amp which really suit you and then save up like hell for them if they are too expensive. it will be worth the wait (as long as the prices arent over the top).

i'd get a laney vc30 (£300) and that'd leave you around £200 for a guitar. if your current guitar is decent (tell us what it is!), £500 would almost buy you an orange rocker 30 combo, and i think the arctic monkeys use orange? a vox ac30cc would also be worth a look, at a similar price to the rocker 30.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

What guitar do you own now? If you own a Fender-like instrument, go for an LP. If you own an LP-like instrument, go for a Fender.

I personally don't like Fender-like instruments, but I still own two so I can have a diverse range of guitars.
Weapons of choice-
Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Fender MIM Jazz Bass

Favorite genre-

Hard Rock
Hair Metal
Classic Metal
J-Rock

What kind of Fender Jaguar? CIJs are $600-$700 and MIA AVs are $1500-$2000. The actual vintages are at least two times that.

That's right, most of them do.

I would go for the Casino or the Jaguar.

I don't think that Les Pauls would be particularly good for indie type tones.

Unless you're running them with a nice singing overdrive or a very bluesey glissando sound, they have a sort of "carbohydrate" sound and generic timbre to them.

I think that the other guitars would be tonally a much better bet, because they both have more of a cutting edge that works better with clean or almost clean sounds.

do you have a link to that? there are quite a few different epiphone models... if it's the '57 reissue, that was a pretty nice guitar. but obviously you may have a different model.

how about a laney vc15 and an MIM fender tele (or blade tele, or lite ash fender tele)? you should be able to get that for around the £500 mark.
