I'm not sure how many responses I will receive to this thread, but perhaps I can inspire some of those who are big fans of grunge to give some input...

The purpose here is discuss bands that inspired grunge that you also happened to get into, so that I (and hopefully others) can get some suggestions on some good music. It is a pretty wide spectrum of music that we could cover, so instead will limit it to the punk/indie/alternative rock of the 80's/Early '90's, so as to just cover the later influence which I feel gave the early grunge it's sound. Examples of early Grunge Albums and the sound I'm referencing are: Green River's Dry as a Bone, Soundgarden's Screaming Life and Nirvana's Bleach. These are my Favorite albums by these bands, but go with the sound from the albums you liked.

Generally speaking, most of the bands that I will personally reference as influence are ones that I found as influences to the majority of Grunge bands, but if you listen to a band that seemed to only impact a couple grunge bands or you feel had influence then please list them with you're favorite album or even songs.

I'm only listing my favorite bands/Album, but feel free to list as many bands/albums/songs as you wish:

Black Flag - Damaged (1981) & My War (1984)
The Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments (1987)
The Pixies - Surfer Rosa (1988 - a must have)
Sonic Youth - Bad Moon Rising (1985) & Sister (1987)

I might edit later and give you specific reasons for each album or even songs of preference, but I'm crunched for time...sorry
