http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-American-Jazz-Bass-?sku=515119

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-American-Standard-Jazz-Bass?sku=515755

Well maybe they just listed it twice? Why don't you e-mail them and ask then?

yeah, on GAK its the same, except the cheaper one is labelled discontinued, and is only available in candy cola, but if i paid extra for an american standard in candy cola it would be the same

Oh God - you're not thinking of buying one! Get a Lakland Daryl Jones - blows the Fender out the water.

one has S-1 switching, one doesn't.
one has a thinner undercoat, they have different hardware, HMV bridge on one, improved neck pocket. Look at the specs, they'res minor details

Fender Telecaster Blacktop

thanks. i quite like S-1, i though it was still standard on the '08 american standards, oh well

EDITL so whats the forums opinion, pay more for an '08, or less for an older one with the S-1 and get a new bridge?

IIRC the S-1 switch was prone to breaking and that sparked the interest in removing it.

ahh i see, not that S-1 is vital to me, my year plan is to end up with a MIA P and J anyway

There is something wrong with you. The Lakland DJ p!sses all over the Fender.

Well who am I to say? You don't like my set-up and I use Status and Bergantino!

And remember that the new tuners are 30% lighter, that's like having the weight of just three tuners. That improves the neckdive and whatnot of the bass tons. The HMV is inspired on the BAII. Food for thought.

exactly haha, but i go after basses that give me a tone i like, so its not so much that i dont like the basses, i just dont like the tone, and far prefer Precision and Fender jazz tone (well except warwicks, i dislike the tone and the aesthetics lol)

Best passive bass I have ever played. DO NOT GET THE FENDER! You're just paying for the name.

Can you please just stop saying everyone else is wrong and that only your voice rings true in a sea of lies.

If he wants to get a Fender, let him.

yeah i played an '07, i loved it, can only imagine what the '08 is like, its a real shame they started doing candy cola instead of chrome red, CR with a black pickgaurd has been my favourite looking bass for a loooong time, along with white on black P basses

I'm just stating my opinion - something I'm allowed to and something every other member is allowed to.

If you're calling me a liar you can go suck my d*** as far as I'm concerned.

He can get the Fender if he wants - even if it is the wrong bass.

I hate to break it to you, you're paying for the name of a Lakland too, and a Warwick and a Peavey and a Yamaha and any other lucrative company's product, regardless of what it is. It's a fact of business. Fender has a history of making excellent instruments and all the power to them to charge for it. You better believe Lakland does it too. Never mind the fact that Fender makes quality instruments as well.

But with Fender you pay waaay over the odds. Lakland makes quality instruments but they are entitled to charge high because they're not poo.

A Fender MIM is the same quality has a bass made in Korea. A Fender MIA is just too expensive for what it is.
