The camera needs to stop fucking jumping around. It's barely watchable like that.

In other news, Ritchie Blackmore's pretty good at guitar.

Me + my boss were talking about this the other day and the earliest he knew of was around 1970's

Actually, I think Jazz players started to do some sweeping. Nothing like to fast, but something slower and not as rock I guess, they would skip strings too. My guitar teacher was telling me about that.

Les Paul half-sweeping and alternate picking with Chet Atkins

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfjD680wQJI. I'm one of Les Paul's (and Chet Atkins) biggest fans and I've never heard him fully sweep pick. I have almost everything he's done.

And here's Limehouse Blues played by Les Paul with Chet Atkins doing awesome acoustic Jazz leads.

Django Reinhardt?

The guy only had two fingers, too.

He definitely did some brilliant sweeping, on an acoustic, not sure if he know he was sweep licking though.

No, arpeggio's have been around for a long time, but you show me someone sweep PICKING on a piano, and i'll be impressed.

Wasn't sweep picking originally thought of as a jazz technique?

Maybe they used a lute?

You can sweep pick in the piano. JUst get behind the keyboard where the strings are, grab a pick and start sweeping...

Sorry but i didn't see Blackmore sweep picking. Just a lot of sloppy alt picking.

It was invented on a violin...

Well, arpeggios have been around since...well, music was invented. :P

I guess frank gambale first pioneered the style of sweeping that's used today, though.
