yeah i think this is the right forum, if not sorry.

but i was watching a live video of radiohead and jonny does this cool thing at 1:50 where he pulls the high e off the fretboard and picks it whilst moving it around. if anyone could suggest any like effects he might be using or a specific way to do it maybe i'm doing it wrong but i've tried and can't get it to sound right.

Anyway, here's the link

Sounds like he's using a whammy pedal I have no idea how he gets the sound though

I think someone asked about this one youtube as well; by the looks of it he's pulling the string waaaay off the fretboard and actually "fretting" against the body of the guitar, then he pulls it harder to create the change in pitch.

To be honest I think you'd be better off getting a slide, thimble or other similar object and playing over pickups; that would be much less potentially damaging to the instrument and string.

I wouldn't say it's a trick so much as string/guitar abuse...

I got another question too about Jonny's style. If you watched "Meeting people is Easy" when they play "Follow Me Around", he does this weird thing that I cannot tell what. It sounds like a sustained slide but I tried looking at his hands and there is no slide. He does the same when they played "High N Dry" on Jay Leno. You can see it on this link too:

Any ideas?

It looks like some kind of pickslide to me.

EDIT: if you talking about the stuff around 2:40

From the looks of it he probably was pulling it while using a whammy, while the pull was definitely extreme I don't think it'd get that crazy of a sound without using a whammy pedal. But then again he's always got crazy tricks up his sleeve. It's somewhat humorous and scary to see him in interviews since he's always really cheerful/enthusiastic and very normal but when he's playing guitar he's always stoic, emotionless and just goes into that frantic chaotic sounding style of playing that he has.
