I caught a performance of the newer bassist, Sami Yaffa, playing with the New York Dolls. I liked the look of his bass, and decided to do a strat inspired by it. Granted, at the time, I had something like three glasses of Old Grandad circulating through my system when I started stripping it, but by the time I started painting it, there was no going back. In fact, it took almost everything I had to remember what my original idea actually was. Pictures. Enjoy.

For comparison:

Still a great deal more work to do, but I threw this together mostly from spare parts. That's not even a real tortoise pickguard on there. I just had one of those cheap, painted ones lying around. Same goes for the pickups. I think I got them from GuitarFetish some time ago.
Sincerely, Chad.

I normally hate pretend relics, but I actually like that - looks pretty true to the original concept too.

I can understand why the bass would be worn in that area, but i don't see how wear would be found that far up on a guitar. Either way, I give kudos for the color of the strat.

I started running on auto-pilot with some 60 grit. By the time I snapped out of it, I realized I went way too high. Oh well. It's not like it started off with the greatest effort.

Edit: I might throw some paint back onto that horn, but it won't ever look the same.
Sincerely, Chad.

My biggest nitpick, right now, is the pickup covers. They should be black, to at least try and match. They're all I had, though.
Sincerely, Chad.

Pretty good, actually. I wired a Black Ice Overdrive into it to give it a good edge. The pickups are reverse-wound and overwound. Screams pretty good. Might upload a sound sample in a week (right now, I'm in Glen Arbor; over five hours from my home town).

Glad you guys enjoy it. More feedback is always welcome.
Sincerely, Chad.
