Ok, so this is my guitar...well, not actually mine, but the same. I play a lot of metal/hard rock and I really like this guitar. I fitted those Zakk Wylde pickups in it (EMG?) as I play a lot of drop D, van halen, Metallica, etc.

Anyway, If I were to go a little higher in price or stay around the same, what would be a good next step? Where would this guitar fall on a 1-10 scale?

Looks like a good guitar to me but I wouldn't put EMGs in it but I don't like them so that's more up to personal taste than anything else.
R.I.P. My Signature. Lost to us in the great Signature Massacre of 2014.

I love my sz520, I've got that exact guitar, but in purple and with stock pick ups. EMGS aren't what I'd personally use alot, I like metal guitar I just rarely play it, so 8/10.
What I want in my rig (Bold = gear I have):
Ibanez SZ-520QM
Vintage VECJ100BK
Epiphone Dot
Laney VC15
Boss GE7
Boss SD1
Zoom G2

I would give it no more than a 7
No matter how you look at, it still a mid range instrument.

For the price I paid for it ($200 with the Fender HSC, ~$180 from MF) and the use I've had for this inexpensive beast over the past year, I give it a 9/10. This is a workingman's beast: very reliable, nice construction, and easily holds it's own against my more expensive SGs.

I love this thing.
